Sheldon Road Underpass Project
Information Update February 5, 2008
Wayne County officials stated that construction has
restarted in earnest and is currently on-going. They further
indicated that an accelerated process will be implemented if
necessary to meet the original projected completion date of
December 2008. The following is the Status of Major Work
(all dates are tentative; delays are possible due to weather
and unforeseen conditions):
• Construction of the necessary, temporary railroad by-pass,
is on-going
and expected to be completed in late February-early March 2008;
• Earth excavation on the north side of the railroad tracks
is underway and
excavation on the south side of the railroad tracks is expected to
start
in early February 2008;
• Work pertaining to the shut down of a portion of the old
36” water line
and the installation of a new segment of the 36” water main is
expected
to start in February 2008 and be completed by April 30, 2008.
Previously it was determined that in order to maintain the
service of the City a temporary connection would be made
between the Township water system and the City water system.
Plymouth Township and the City of Plymouth are currently
planning to activate the temporary water service connections
between the communities (previously installed and tested) at
least two weeks prior to the shut-down of the existing 36”
water main. This action will provide the City and Township
water system with a greater amount of protection if an
accidental breach of the 36” line were to occur. The
shut-down of the existing 36” water main is tentatively
scheduled for early March 2008, as part of the work
pertaining to the installation of the new 36” water main.
North Territorial Road, between Beck Road and Sheldon Road,
has received a substantial amount of the detour traffic. As
a result of this traffic, numerous pot holes have been
produced, in this area. The Township Board requested the
County to address this concern. The County, in this last
week, placed temporary cold path fills in this area. This
segment of North Territorial road is now scheduled for
re-pavement upon completion of the Sheldon Road underpass.
