Emergency Management

Plymouth Township is part of the Wayne County Emergency Management Plan

Plymouth Township has a comprehensive Emergency Management plan in cooperation with Wayne County DHSEM (Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management). This plan integrates internal resources and infrastructure along with county resources provided by FEMA grants to mitigate large scale or long term emergency events. The Emergency Warning system and Nixle will be the two main communication avenues to provide information on anything from severe weather events to potential HAZMAT or terrorism activity.

Emergency Warning Sirens

The Plymouth Community has 10 outdoor warning sirens that are activated in the event of an emergency. These sirens are tested at 1:00 pm on the first Saturday of each month. It is a good idea to prepare for your response when you hear the emergency siren activated. First you should immediately take cover and tune in to a local television or radio station to get further information. Make sure you have a battery-operated radio and flashlight in case electrical power is interrupted.

Although floods, thunderstorms and tornadoes can occur anytime throughout the year, they are more dangerous during the warmer parts of the year because people spend more time outside and are directly exposed to these events. Knowing how to respond when a storm strikes can make all the difference in keeping you and your family safe. Check the Michigan Committee for Severe Weather Awareness (MCSWA) website at www.mcswa.com for more information.

Nixle Emergency Alert System

Plymouth Township uses a community information service called “Nixle” that can help keep you and your family safe and informed with emergency alerts, important advisories, community updates, and traffic information.  You receive up-to-date information impacting the areas near you by cell phone, e-mail and on the web.

You can subscribe to the service free of charge by going to the Plymouth Township website, www.plymouthtwp.org.  On the lower left side of the screen, click on the link for the Nixle service.  Click on the Nixle icon, then “sign up free.”
