The Department, in the 2nd quarter of 1998, began to apply
its community service philosophy on the delivery of police
service in the development of Department procedures, operating
orders and the organization of Department personnel. In order
to aid in our Community Policing efforts, the Department
established a new mission and vision statement, and
implemented goals and objectives that incorporated a community
policing and crime prevention philosophy. 1999 was our first
full year operating under the community policing/problem
solving philosophy.
Community Policing is the philosophy of working in
partnership with police officers assigned to specific
geographic or specialized areas of service. Citizens develop a
healthy ownership of their Police Department and volunteer
time, effort, and support to assist their Department and
involve themselves on problem-solving activities to improve
the community and their quality of life.
The Patrol Division is organized into Service Area Teams
and provides quality service to our citizens using this
philosophy. The Youth Services Unit, the Community Resource
Officer, and Patrol Division Service Area Officers have been
working in partnership with the community to deliver quality
service aimed at solving neighborhood problems and improving
the quality of life of the citizens of Plymouth Township.
The programs and handouts developed by our Community
Resource Officer have increased our crime prevention message
in the community. Case follow-up information to victims of
crime by our Investigations Section has also aided in the
positive communication between the Department and its
citizens.
