4. Old Business
A. Update on Streetscape Maintenance (Eckles
and Haggerty)
Mr. Fellrath indicated the contractor has completed spring cleanup and completed
a couple rounds of lawn mowing. This is year two of a three-year contract for
Denny’s Landscaping. Last year the work was divided among Denny’s who was
responsible for trimming and lawn mowing and the MDOT contractor who was
responsible for the remainder. This year Denny’s is responsible for everything
including weeding and maintenance of the landscape beds, fertilization,
watering, and picking up trash along the corridor. Start-up of the sprinkling
system is scheduled for this week
A final walk-through was made in early May by the arborist from McKenna
Associates and the MDOT landscape contractor to determine if any replacement
plants are needed. There were a handful of plants which were scheduled to have
been replaced last week, though a status report has not yet been received.
B. Streetscape Grasses and Plants: Transplant and
Replacement
Needs
Mr. Fellrath reviewed the various areas for removal of the high Little Kitten
grasses and Russian sage and because of the objections of various businesses and
visibility concerns at intersections. Dwarf fountain grasses are the suggested
replacement for the Little Kitten grasses between UI-275 and Eckles Road and in
front of the Massey dealership, with no replacement for the Russian sage in
front of Hines Park Lincoln Mercury.
Mr. Anulewicz indicated the contract was overseen the MDOT and these plants were
chosen by MDOT landscape architects. The little kitten grasses can be
transplanted to the new Township Hall site.
Mr. Fellrath reviewed the quote of $6,993 from Denny’s Landscaping for these
removals, replacements, and transplantations.
Members discussed possible savings of $1,857 by not transplanting the Little
Kitten grasses at Township Hall or possibly having them planted by Township
field crews or court workers.
Moved by Mrs. Ludtke, supported by Mr. Cooke, to spend up to $5,200.00 to remove
the Little Kitten grasses and replace them with Dwarf Fountain grasses between
I-275 and Eckles Road and in front of the Massey dealership and to remove the
Russian sage in front of Hines Park Lincoln Mercury.
Ayes all.
Mr. Reaume expressed appreciation for the hard work and photographs taken.
C. CSX/Ann Arbor Road Railroad Bridge
Concepts: Project Status
Mr. Fellrath reviewed with members the status sheet from Hubbell, Roth & Clark
who are determining how to proceed with the project.
CSX explained their lack of response to the communication from the Township was
because of a labor issue which has to be resolved. Work will be continued toward
expediting the project.
Mr. Anulewicz explained his advice to Hubbell, Roth & Clark for dealing with CSX
in attempting to complete the project.
