STREET SWEEPING STARTS THIS MONTH
Beginning this month, the Township DPW will be operating the street sweeping vehicle. Not only does it clear debris from the roads, it also helps keep the storm sewers unobstructed and draining properly. Residents can help by moving parked vehicles from the roadway when they see the street sweeper in the area. The DPW Crew will avoid coming through neighborhoods on the same day that the trash hauler is scheduled to come. Sweeping will not be done when there is a heavy rain and/or a lot of standing water on the roadway.
So how does a street sweeper work? Large brooms are used along the curb to push debris into the center of the vehicle, and as the vehicle moves forward, a vacuum sucks up the debris into the back of the truck. On especially dirty streets a center broom is also used to help clean the pavement.
A map showing the tentative schedule for street sweeping can be found here.
The program continues through September.
