The Federal Railway Administration (FRA) has a new website requesting information on blocked railroad crossings - including date, time, location and duration.

The FRA expects it will take an average of 3 minutes for users to complete the report. They also ask that this only be done ‘in a manner that is consistent with the safe operation of a vehicle,’ (i.e. don’t text and drive!)

Reports can be made at: http://www.fra.dot.gov/blockedcrossings

FRA will use the information to gain a better picture of where, when, and for how long such obstructions occur at the nation’s approximately 130,000 public grade crossings. FRA will share the information with stakeholders, using it to help facilitate local solutions to blocked crossing issues.
