Update - October 19, 2021

The following statement was issued to the Township yesterday from DTE:

“We understand how frustrating losing power can be and we apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced. Your recent outages were caused by equipment issues at the corner of Ann Arbor and Sheldon Roads, and we made necessary replacements on Sunday, October 10. You should see a significant improvement in your power reliability moving forward. To help further prevent future issues before they occur, we are also surveying the area with drones to see aerial views that could spot any issues that may impact your power reliability. At this point, we have seen no additional problems, but we assure you that we will work quickly and safely to correct any issues we may find in our ongoing assessments.”

Repeated and unexplained power outages from DTE have hit all of us in Western Wayne and Oakland Counties since this summer’s severe storms. While local governments do not control DTE, we do work with DTE daily to address citizen complaints and seek solutions to these problems.

The most recent outages here were addressed by DTE in the following statement:

“We are aware of the poor reliability and outages that your area has experienced this summer and over the past few weeks, and we are committed to improving your service as soon as possible. We have already began to make necessary equipment upgrades and repairs in your area, but we still have more work to perform to address your concerns. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to patrol your area to identify additional issues. Some of the work may require brief interruptions to your power so that we can safely the complete repairs. If an outage is required, we will notify you in advance with timing and details. If you have any questions, please contact our Customer Hotline at 313-235-8021. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve your service.”

Plymouth Township is also working with Wayne County and the Conference of Western Wayne communities to force DTE to make immediate and lasting upgrades to our regional electric grid, and to increase regional tree trimming operations. Our communities also have other legal and regulatory options available.

We all agree that these outages are unacceptable.
